
Traditional Tax Preparation
Service Description
Free, confidential tax preparation provided by IRS-certified Michigan State University volunteers. MSU VITA is held at the MSU Union Rooms 40 and 41 and you may arrive anytime between 6:00–8:00 PM. Please bring your Social Security Number (SSN) or ITIN cards for everyone included on the tax return, Photo ID, all relevant Tax Documents (W-2, 1099-Int/Div, 1099-NEC, 1099-SSA, 1099-R, 1099-Misc, Unemployment, etc.), Health Insurance Forms: 1095-A, 1095-B, 1095-C, Other Tax Forms: 1098-T, 1099-G, etc., and Banking Information: Routing and Account numbers MSU VITA operates as a Scan and Go–only location. Under this process, clients bring their tax documents to the VITA clinic, where the documents are securely scanned and submitted for preparation. Clients then return the following week for the final review and submission of their tax return. Clients are not present during the tax preparation process and must return to the clinic to complete the final review before their return can be officially filed. If you would prefer a traditional, full service appointment, please call our 211 number. Anyone in our community can use our services. You do not have to be a US Citizen. To use our VITA services all you have to do is sign up and pick a time and date where you can come to our campus and work directly with our tax professionals. To qualify for the VITA program your Household income is less than $67,000 and You do NOT have ANY of the following: Rental Property, Self-employment income that contains: Over $35,000 in expenses, A loss in 2025, Employees, Depreciation/Amortization
